Frequently Asked Questions
Please reach out to us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Are you accepting new clients?
The best way to find out if we are currently accepting new clients is to reach out to us through our contact page.
Do you only work with women?
We primarily work with women and LGBTQ+ adults, though we welcome adults of any gender who feel connected to our approach.
Do you work with children or teens?
Unfortunately, we work exclusively with adults.
Do you offer court-ordered or mandated therapy?
No. Salty Counseling provides voluntary, self-initiated therapy only. We do not offer court-ordered treatment, mandated therapy, evaluations, or services connected to legal or probation requirements.
Do you provide evaluations or work-related assessments?
No. We do not provide psychological evaluations, fitness-for-duty evaluations, work assessments, or documentation for employers, courts, probation, or legal matters.

Each therapy session is 50 minutes in length. 90-minute sessions may be available depending on the clinician and treatment needs.
How much are sessions?

Associate Therapist (ACMHC, CSW): $145 per 50-minute session
We work with clients who are ready to go beyond quick fixes and invest in deeper healing. Private-pay therapy allows us to work at an intentional pace, without the restrictions of insurance. Many clients are able to receive partial out-of-network reimbursement through Mentaya, which can submit claims and superbills on your behalf.
Availability and fit vary by clinician. You can find more details on the Contact page or reach out directly with any questions.
Do you take my insurance?
Salty Counseling is an out-of-network provider, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. We can provide monthly superbills that you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. We also partner with Mentaya, a service that can submit claims on your behalf for a 5% fee. HSA and FSA cards are also accepted.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
We are not offering a sliding scale at this time. If you’re looking for low-cost options, you might explore Open Path Collective.
How long will I be in therapy for?
It depends on your goals and what you’d like to work on. Some clients come weekly for just a few months, while others continue longer for deeper healing. We’ll shape the timeline around your needs, and we can share more about what to expect during our consultation call.
Do you have to give me a diagnosis?
No. If you plan to use insurance for reimbursement, a diagnosis is required by insurance companies. However, if you’re paying privately and prefer not to have a diagnosis on record, we can move forward without one. Many of our clients — especially those in sensitive professions — find this gives them peace of mind, allowing them to be more open and honest in therapy without worrying about how it might impact their work or future. Please reach out if you’d like to talk this through further.
Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?
Both! Our office is located in the Holladay/Millcreek area, but we also offer secure telehealth appointments anywhere in Utah. You can also switch based on your preference.
What happens during the consultation call?
Our consultation call is a 15-minute phone conversation where you can share what’s been going on and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. We’ll explain our approach, answer your questions, and discuss whether our practice may be a good fit for your needs.
This is also an opportunity to learn more about how we work, what to expect from therapy, and whether moving forward feels like the right next step.
